MATTEO GIUBELLINI LEADS THE SWISS DELEGATION

There will be five Swiss representatives at the 41st edition of the Memorial Gander on November 6th.

The name of Matteo Giubellini, the rising star of Swiss gymnastics, stands out above all others. At the Paris Olympics he obtained an amazing tenth place in the multiple final of the best 24 gymnasts from the qualifying group. This twenty-year-old from Aargau was a real surprise, enchanting everyone with his virtuous and elegant gymnastics.

Alongside him was another great star of Paris, Florian Langenegger, a twenty-one-year-old who also graduated from the Aargau school.

Both contributed effectively to the splendid seventh place of the Swiss national team in the team final.

The Swiss delegation in the men's field was completed by twenty-nine-year-old Christian Baumann, who already won a silver medal on the parallel bars at the European Championships in Basel and who will close his splendid competitive career with the Memorial Gander and the subsequent Swiss Cup.

Finally, in the women's field, there will be Annie Wu, the current Swiss vice champion, and Stephanie Siegenthaler.

ITALY PRESENT WITH TWO OLYMPIC FINALISTS

The Italian national team honors the MG in the best possible way by proposing two top names.

In the women's field there will be eighteen-year-old Angela Andreoli, "the little devil from Brescia" who with her spectacular floor exercise took Italy to heaven in the Olympic final in Paris. She was in fact the last gymnast to perform and her excellent performance definitively gave the Italians a historic silver medal in the multiple competition.

In the men's field there will be Mario Macchiati, also a great protagonist of the excellent Italian ride in the GO with the 6th place in the team final and participation in the final of the best 24 gymnasts where he finished in 19th position.

Therefore a presence of great quality and prestige for a nation that has Paris undoubtedly played a leading role.

THE 41ST EDITION OF THE MEMORIAL GANDER TAKES SHAPE

Two months before the event on Wednesday, November 6, the 41st edition of the Memorial Gander is starting to take shape.

The participating nations are already known with good certainty:

Brazil – USA – Italy – Germany – France – Spain – Austria – Holland – Ukraine – CH

Individually, only one name stands out with certainty above all others, that of the Ukrainian Ilia Kovtun, silver medalist on the parallel bars at the recent Paris Olympics. A spectacular and eclectic gymnast, the Ukrainian will be able to put on a great show on his own.

Targeted contacts are also underway with the Algerian Kaylia Nemour, splendid dominator of the final on the uneven bars, again at the GO in Paris. Her presence would significantly increase the appeal of this 41st edition of the MG.

The Swiss representatives will also be there. The certainty of their names and of all the other protagonists will arrive only soon, but without a doubt the cast will be, as always, attractive and worthy of the great Ticino public.

Arturo Gander

Without doubt Arturo Gander is one of the few, if not rare people, who ranged over the total movement of the "ars gymnastica" of his time, with actions which were futuristic for the movement.
