Greetings from the Mayor

Exactly 40 years have passed: it was the autumn of 1984 when the first edition of the Arturo Gander Memorial took place in the then new multipurpose building of the Municipality of Chiasso – the Palapenz, recently inaugurated. Exactly four decades later, the Arturo Gander Memorial will experience a brand new edition; and it is significant that it will take place in a Palapenz completely modernized after two years of work, a structure that is now once again absolutely in step with the times.

Over the years, the Arturo Gander Memorial has become an important event in the Chiasso calendar, bringing great prestige to our town. A result that was achieved thanks to the commendable work of the local Federal Gymnastics Society, organizer of the event since its debut.

Every two years Chiasso eagerly awaits the Gander Memorial to applaud some of the best names in world gymnastics, in an event of international scope that brings prestige to our entire region. This will certainly happen again with the 2024 edition.

The Municipality of Chiasso gives great importance to sport in general, while ensuring particular attention to the involvement of young people. An event of this kind certainly also serves as a promotional vehicle for gymnastics towards the new generations, who have the opportunity to admire and applaud the elite of this discipline – just a stone’s throw from home.

The warmest thanks of the municipal authorities, as always, go to the Promotion Committee and to all the volunteers who collaborate for the success of the competition.

It is therefore with great pleasure that I invite my fellow citizens and the entire population of Ticino to the Palapenz on November 6, to admire the athletes involved in this extraordinary event.
